Laketober day 6 - 10

 I have failed.

I tried on a whim to create a piece of art each day in October, following the Laketober prompts (which were great) but after 10 days, I stoppped.

The main reason was that it took up all my free time and there was no time left for role-playing-games writing and editing.

Still, I'm quite proud of the 10 pieces i've created over the beginning of October, so I decided to at least show you guys the Tarot i've started to create.

Who knows, maybe one day i'll write the corresponding game to that Tarot :-D ...

Laketober Day 6: Death & Immortality

For this prompt I decided to go more in the direction of the immortality, and pictured immediately the Arcane of "The Magician" as a young looking alchemist that has found a way to cheat the process of aging.

I depicted him quite neutrally, even though I think researching immortality is doomed to make you crazy and dangerous (I've written a table on that: D66 Mad wizard's research into immortality)

I'm quite happy how this turned out, but the picture of the alchemist i've used is what makes this picture great (i found it on Unsplash).

Laketober Day 7: Sacrifice & Ritual

I first tried here to picture a ritual and in the process, i thought of picturing what happens when the invoker is not able to keep the demon (or other entity) that he invoked in check.

I present "the devil invoked" - a variation of the 15th major arcana of the tarot - "the Devil"...

"What do you think happen after the invocation, weak mortal?"

Laketober Day 8 : Dogs & Shrimps

I don't know why, but the dog prompt made me research where pets are depicted on the classical illustrations of the Tarot, and well nowhere is there a dog. But somehow, I made a mental connection to Death and imagined what Death's pet would look like...

So, I present "Death and her pet" - a variation of the 13th major arcana of the tarot - "Death"...

What else could Death have as a pet, if not a Cerberus?

Laketober Day 9 : Knife & Matches

My first association to combine Knife and Tarot was to understand Knife as "Blade" and therefore I pictured the Sword of Justice.

I had not a lot of time for this piece, and tried a new technique to create it (one i'll probably will not use again). Still, I like the result.

I present "Hallucinating Justice" - a variation of the 11th major arcana of the tarot - "Justice"...

Do you think Justice is blind or only tripping on LSD??

Laketober Day 10 : Soul & Mask

For me, mask is associated to Carnival, and Venice's carnival is the one that resonnates most with me. While searching for a nice picture of the classical carnival, I stumbled upon a picture of lovers wearing masks and I then knew which Arcana I would depict...

I present "The venitian Lovers" - a variation of the 6th major arcana of the tarot - "The lovers"...

I'm quite proud of the creepiness of the picture, mostly induced by the moon's face and the monolith in the background...

In conclusion

But even though i didn't finish Laketober, i'm really happy about my participation and there is only one piece of art i'm really not proud of ("23 - The time traveller", from my last post).

In the end, i'm sure i've learned stuff, and I've really augmented the pace at which I work, which is a real plus.

I hope you liked the Arcana cards, it's probably never gonna be a complete set, but who knows if next october coming I won't have forgotten how chronophage that was and decide to restart...

And as always, comments welcome !

Laketober day 3 - 5

 Laketober 3 to 5

Prompt 3 of laketober probably is the on that inspired me the most, but also may have a longer lasting influence.

The prompts were Voodoo and Tarot, and that last one is what got my creative juice flowing:

I wanna try to create a complete set of Tarot cards (well actually only the Major Arcanas)

Inktober Day 3: Voodoo & Tarot

I decided to interpret the "high Priest" card of the tarot as a voodoo Priest, on the job of creating / enchanting a doll.

I'm not really happy with the sky, but I love the colors!

Here is "The HighPriest working on a doll"

Laketober Day 4: Bait & Fishing

I present "the bait man" - a laktoberified version of the 12th #major #arcana of the #tarot (the Hanged Man)

Since I couldn't find an appropriate "hanged by feet" image to incorporate, i decided... ...to let a friend make a photo of me in the right position.

So yeah, i'm the bait here !

I'm really happy about this one, because it's a complicated piece (much more than I normally do) with 6 parts put togehter but is still homogeneous and  the colors are well balanced (in my opinion).

Laketober Day 5: Future & Past

This one was difficult: I had no real inspiration (nothing inspiring, to be exact) and not a lot of time on my hands (real life is getting in the way)

So I did this piece. It's a collage of 2 disguised photos of me, one Western styled, one SciFi... Sadly, i had not a lot of time to take the pictures i imagined, nor someone to take the picture.

I had to take those on a timer, in my kitchen and quite frankly mostly blindly. The focus was also not on the depth i was myself so I actually need to be proud of the result, considering everything that was against me...

But I'm not really proud of this one... Only proud that it exists, which is still much better than not delivering an image...

This lack of proudness is one of the reason I gave it the name of an unexisting arcana - so i don't have to include it into the Tarot at the end of the month if I really don't like it...

Inktober & Laketober : day 1&2

 Inktober & Laketober : day 1&2

October came and I wasn't ready. But seeing the flood of cool art from my friends, i decided i wanted to join in.

So on the quick, I concocted something for day 1 of the official Inktober.

Inktober Day 1: Fish

I decided to take a dolphin image, put a joust rider on its back and call it a "Meerfolk Cavalry".

Laketober Day 1: Black Cube

But then i heard about the polemic around Inktober and decided to go to an alternative challenge.
Laketober proposes 2 prompts per day and they are much more inspiring for me.
Luckily enough, i still had time to make a quick creation for day 1.
Black Cube made me think of the "2001: a space Odyssey"-Monolith.
Who would guard them in a fantasy setting? Right: dragons. Very intelligent creatures. But also ferocious one, so they would fight for its power...

Laketober Day 2: Submarine + Lake

Laketober porposes 2 prompts per day (Which you can find on rustylake's blog).
Reading both, my mind made a loud geeky boom, associating this with a mix of "hunt for red october" near Chicago on the Lake Michigan. A second later, alternative history and C&C's Red Alert were on my mind.
I'm quite happy with this one and if i ever create a "red alert"-styled RPG, this might make a good cover...

Since I felt like it, I went to Canva and framed the image, to have its title on there too...
